What are value chain emissions?

  • Scope 1: Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources (e.g., company vehicles, onsite boilers).

  • Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy (e.g., electricity, steam, or cooling used in facilities).

  • Scope 3: Also known as "value chain emissions," these include all other indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur in a company’s entire value chain. They are categorized into Upstream emissions (related to purchased goods, services, and logistics) and Downstream emissions (related to the distribution, use, and end-of-life of sold products).
