Net Zero
Goal of balancing GHG emissions produced with absorptions or offsets, at company, sector or state level.
Net Zero is the state where the residual greenhouse gas emissions of an entity are balanced by an equivalent volume of carbon absorption or sequestration, in the atmosphere or biosphere. At planetary level, it is the target of the Paris Agreement to limit warming to 1.5°C.
SBTi defines a Net Zero standard for companies: reduce absolute emissions by at least 90% across all scopes by 2050 (versus a recent base year), then neutralise the remaining 10% via high-quality removals (sustainably managed forests, geological capture). Offsetting via standard carbon credits is not sufficient.
Kabaun produces the Net Zero trajectory expected by SBTi: annual reduction curve, 1.5°C alignment check, identification of priority reduction levers, and estimation of the residual removals required.
